While many were enjoying their Memorial Day weekend, I was enjoying my time at Rosewood Gardens in Livermore presenting on downsizing. It was a great opportunity to meet Seniors who are considering a move, but not sure how to go about making the transition. Donna Christner-Lile, who is not only a counselor, but a move manager as well, joined me by presenting on how her ladies take care to help the Senior pack up cherished belongings and sell those items they will no longer need.
What stops so many Seniors from making a much needed or much anticipated move is knowing what to do with all their belongings….where to start? Donna made an important point, all those items that are important to the Senior are being used now in their main living areas. All those items of less importance are left in bedrooms that are rarely used. Packing up belongings and selling items will be the easy part of the move if Donna and her team are there. In fact, they can get a place packed up and a Senior unpacked in their new home in 24 hours. Imagine that? In your new home in 24 hours! In addition, her ladies are extremely particular. They will take photos of the Seniors home before they move anything so when the Senior’s belongings are unpacked and put away in their new home the items are put back exactly where they were before…the toothbrush is on the 1st shelf of the medicine cabinet, the silverware is to the left of the stove…really, wherever these items were placed in the Seniors home is where they will be put in the new home. When the Senior walks in the door it feels like home.
After our hour presentation, Cassandra from Rosewood Gardens, gave tours of their assisted living community and memory care. An important part of any transition is to have a plan. Even if a Senior does not need assisted living or memory care now, they many need it in the future. By touring the community these individuals could see if this would be a good place to live if they needed it in the future.
