We’ve been on a lot of bicycle rides and one that we are very glad we participated in was on Saturday October 22. We rode 63 miles in the Wheels for Meals organized by bike ride which raises money for the Alameda County Meals on Wheels program.
In case you’re not familiar with Meals on Wheels, the service delivers hot food to home bound senior citizens who cannot shop or cook for themselves. The program currently feeds about 2,000 people everyday and delivers up to 630,000 meals a year. A lot of people in our community depend upon this program for survival so we were really honored to be participating in the fundraising event. This year’s ride raised $100,000 for the program which is needed more than ever in today’s economy.
Even the youngest member of Team Junell, four year old Bryce Junell took part. While Bryce was a little too young to ride on his own, Brett pulled him for 63 miles so he could participate. Not an easy task if you are familiar with some of the hills, particularly pulling Bryce to the top of the Patterson Pass while others were walking their bikes.
Team Junell is already planning for next year’s ride and plans to have their biking friends participate in the event. A round of congratulations and thanks to all the wonderful people at Meals on Wheels who made this such a great event.
