Looking to move into a much smaller space? Wanting to simplify your life? That was us 1 ½ years ago and we were overwhelmed.
Dennis and I had attended LOTS of the Retired Living Series Seminars as part of our preparation…that was a good thing!! We heard about downsizing, next-steps, and decluttering. It was overwhelming, for Dennis was in the hospital and I had just recovered from a cancer battle. We certainly qualified to be in the “senior group” at 79 and 84!
After visiting various Independent Living facilities and deciding on the one we liked best, I called Annette and asked her to come out and give us detailed information for a move from a 2400 sq ft home (Del Webb) to Mt. Lakes Estates here in Reno (891 sq ft 2-bedroom apartment) …Brilliantly, Annette and Brett Junell not only sell real estate, but they specialize in DOWNSIZING FOR SENIORS.
They gave us comps on our house, and we priced it that day…it sold in 3 days! We were introduced to Kirsten, their specialist in downsizing. After locking in our destination place, we requested a 60 day move in date with a 2 month hold at NO COST (Annette’s idea). That sounds fast, but there was NO PRESSURE by the Junell’s…they wanted what was right for us.
First, Kirsten and I discussed the staging of our home. I was able to accomplish that by myself. The photographer she brought in was fantastic. We almost considered cancelling the sale because it looked so good. Not only were the rooms pictured in detail, but there were numerous views captured that we did not even know we had! I am sure that was one of the reasons our sale was so quick.
I had measured our apartment, but Kirsten wanted to redo the measurements for accuracy. She told me to go around our house and label the furniture we wanted to take with us. Kirsten measured the furniture. Using a computer software program, together we placed the furniture where I wanted it, determined what fit and what didn’t. It was fun!!
My next job was to gather everything into one place that I wanted to take with us. That was the hardest job and Kristen worked with me helping me to develop an attitude of “blessing others” and saving memories of what I had to leave behind. Kirsten arranged for a representative from Lighting Auctions to come to evaluate all the items we were NOT taking with us and select what would sell at auction. They estimated that 75% of what was left would go to auction.
Next, a company was secured to remove the stuff that was left for donation. A house cleaner came to thoroughly clean the house after a handyman from the Junell Group accomplished repairs needed prior to the sale and helped us install double clothes rods in our apartment prior to our move.
Once my part was completed (the sorting), it was downhill all the way. The movers did ALL the packing with the supervision of our downsizing specialist, Kirsten. They completed the packing in 1 day. Kirsten color-coded the boxes and furniture according to the placement on the floorplan of our apartment. She gave the movers a copy of the color-coded map, so the movers knew where to place everything. We were able to sleep in our apartment (with the bed made by the Junell downsizing team) on moving day. Most of the boxes were unpacked and placed in bookshelves, drawers, and cabinets in the apartment. It felt like home!
I NEVER COULD HAVE MADE THIS MOVE WITHOUT THE JUNELL GROUP!
That is our successful and painless story of our relocation. Choosing the Junell Group will be the best decision you make!
